About Us

As one of the university’s largest and most successful sports clubs, we welcome everyone from county level squash gods to absolute beginners with the same enthusiasm and excitement. The ULSC community is tremendously active both on and off the court so whatever aspect of club life appeals to you, we promise you’ll fit into our family!

On Court

We field 5 teams to compete in the Midlands BUCS leagues; 3 men’s and 2 lady’s. This year our men’s 2s excelled with their league promotion to Midlands 2A and the lady’s 1s were the jewel in our crown after an undefeated season in Midlands 1A, making them the best team in the region!
Our intermediate team is a large, friendly squad where absolutely anyone who wants to compete against other unis can represent the club. The team can be reliably found after matches reinforcing team spirit over food and drinks.

Our success can be traced back to the work of our incredible coach Simon Taylor. Once one of the top 30 players in the world, Simon runs coaching for all of our members- see table above for training times. His dedication has previously been rewarded with the UoL Coach of the Year award.

We also run a sociable mix in on the weekends for all levels of players and occasional student-led fitness sessions.

We pride ourselves on our regular, inclusive socials. Events range from bar crawls to curry nights and typically end up in the SU nightclub. Highlights of the social calendar include the Freshers Bar Crawl at the start of the year when we make our way through the city completing challenges in our iconic custom T- Shirts, and the Mince Pie Cup in which we deck the courts with boughs of holly and hold a friendly tournament fueled by mince pies and Christmas spirit!

In 2018 we went on our first tour to Croatia over Easter holidays. This classic uni experience is an amazing chance to bond with fellow club members and those from other sports clubs.

Personal Development

Our members carry the benefits of the club with them way past graduation day. We’re lucky to have a great mix of people from different courses and the friends you meet and share experiences with at the club will be the most precious takeaway from your time with us.

You’ll also have the chance to engage with the local community and give to a cause greater than yourself. Last year we raised over £2000 for The Brain Tumour Charity alongside Leicester Squash Club by holding a 48 hour squashathon. Being part of such an incredible team effort was an unforgettable event and one that participants remember with pride.

All club members can run for committee during Spring term. This is a chance to really shape the way the club works and give back to the community while gaining an array of valuable transferable skills.
