About us
Rowing is the ultimate university sport and is one of Britain’s most successful Olympic events! Many of these Olympians learnt to row at university, making it the perfect sport to pick up during your time at Leicester.
The University of Leicester Boat Club (ULBC) won "Most Improved Club of the Year 2014/15"; were short listed for “Club of the Year 2015/16” and is only getting bigger and better! We are the largest mixed society at the university, and every year we welcome both experienced and novice rowers to join our fun and friendly club.
Squads
Novice
Our novice squad caters for athletes who have never tried rowing before; no matter your fitness or ability we will teach you how to row and you can go on to race as competitive novices within a few months. The novice crews quickly become a huge part of the club, when you join you'll meet and socialise with people from all years and courses.
Senior
Our senior squad is for experienced rowers looking to train and race competitively. Both the senior and novice squads attend national events such as BUCS and the Head of River Race in London.
Casual
We also have a casual squad for experienced rowers not looking to race competitively or who want to improve and transition into the senior squad. With any squad you will massively improve your technique on the water and see huge gains and fitness.
Leicester Seniors
We also have a squad for experienced rowers not looking to race competitively or who want to improve and transition into the senior squad. With any squad you will massively improve your technique on the water and see huge gains in fitness.
Social
Rowing isn’t just about competing though; we have a thriving social scene - so big that we have 2 social secretaries dedicated to making sure every event we have is amazing. Our weekly socials are the best of any sports club (look out for the infamous Christmas Smurf Social) and we also get classy at the Annual Christmas Ball. Not only this, but every Easter ULBC goes on tour to places such as Berlin, Amsterdam and Barcelona!
You’ll find us at fresher’s fair, and throughout the two weeks of freshers-fortnight we hold loads of events including the Fresher’s T-shirt Bar Crawl (over 120 people attended last year) and free rowing taster sessions. Experienced rowers can join our seniors for training on the first weekend of term, 1st/2nd October, and see how you like it. Like our Facebook page to stay updated!
Make the most of your university experience, meet lifelong friends, and have something to brag about when you visit home - join this iconic university sport!
