Club Vision Statement:

'To provide not just a sporting club but a social space in which young female athletes can express themselves: physically, through sporting excellence, emotionally - feeling supported and having the opportunities to create bonds with fellow members by having a positive, active outlet that facilitates positive mental health and one that acknowledges that different students may be experiencing a range of mental health issues. And lastly, a club that views their members’ future potential: reducing social barriers that may affect confidence, creating a network of alumni that may benefit future career paths and helping members engage with projects and opportunities that can enhance their employability.’

About us

ULNC (The University of Leicester Netball Club) is the largest female sports club at the University of Leicester. With five BUCS teams, two local league teams, and a development squad, there’s always a team that’s right for you. The success of ULNC is unfounded with 3 of our four BUCs teams placing 2nd or higher in their divisions in the previous season of 2017/18. Also, due to the success team we are proud to announce a fifth team to the BUCs division! This could not be done without the hardwork and excellence of our girls. Our Development squad play in the Netball development League based in the Midlands, whilst Social members join us for events and socials and are every part as integral to ULNC as every other team.

We hold regular training and gym sessions throughout the week ranging from fitness sessions, to team sessions to skills sessions -  home matches are on most Wednesdays, which we encourage all of our members to come and support. Teams are also provided with external bonding sessions and socials to make every member of ULNC feel like part of the family. With over 120 members, there is something for everyone! We've had a 20% increase in students over the age of 22 this year and are keen to maintain the ethos that all ages are welcome.

Awards and Achievements:

ULNC do not only recognise our achievements internally but have been recognised by East Midlands Netball - a branch of England Netball as Club of The Year Nominees 2016/17 and by our very own University at the annual Sports Awards as winners of 'Club of the Year' 2015/16, 17/18. We have also retained the title of Committee of the Year for 3 years running! Our committee take a very hands-on approach and are committed to making your time at ULNC as fulfilling and enjoyable as they possibly can! We are committed to giving back to the local community and this year's club 24-hour shootout in minus conditions saw members consider the experiences of the local homeless they raised money for. Raising over  £1000 for Open Hands Leicester mean the club also secured the Student Union's RAG (Raising and Giving) Award for 2018!

Who do we accept at ULNC?

Everyone! Regardless of your age or capabilities, ULNC pride themselves on having a diverse range of members. Whether you are a first year or a student in your second or third year, we would be happy to welcome you to the ULNC family! We have many girls that have decided to join after their first year and even switch from another sport to Netball. With the growth of our committee this year, the new Wellbeing and Inclusion Officers are dedicated to making you feel welcome and comfortable throughout the year with projects that target wellbeing and creating networks to counteract any barriers that minority students may face upon entering a social environment such as university.

Facilities and Personal Opportunities:

We have access to great sporting facilities at the University; training will either be in the Danielle Sports Centre on campus or the Roger Bettles Sports Centre in Oadby. Not to mention our amazing coaches, Liz and Marie. With both being experienced Netball players they offer not only experienced advice but great insight in terms of gameplay. ULNC also offers oppurtunities for students. We currently have girls undertaking their Level 1 coaching and Level 1 Umpire qualifications. In terms of individuals, the Leicester Local League announced a ULNC member as Player of the Season 2017/18 and we are lucky to have a member scouted by Lough borough Lightning's U21 team for England Netball. Every year there is also the opportunity to run for a position of the Committee, who focus on the running of the club, Wellbeing Officer, that focuses on the wellbeing and mental health of our members or team captains who support committee in managing teams and ensuring our members put their best foot forward on court.

Social Opportunities:

Apart from that, we also have regular socials throughout the year for all members of the club and every member is put into a netball family. If you're looking for a big family to join when you come to University Netball is definitely the club for you! We often have joint socials with other teams to help members to socialise and meet a wide range of people. ULNC are also proud to host an annual 'Old Girls' event in which we welcome back ULNC alumni. Socials are themed evening events that usually follow on to the Student Union - 02 Leicester. After launching out #ULNC4URSAFETY initiative this year members are allocated families to ensure they are safe on nights out. We are very interactive with the university and have had events and sponsorships on campus such as:

 - Self-defence sessions on campus open to all.

 - Pub Quiz to raise money for Womens Aid.

 - Collaboration Blood Testing and SignUp with NHS Blood.

 - Exclusive long-term partnership with firm Deloitte.

We are  not just a sports club but a great social space that try to connect with students as much as possible.

Each year we go on an annual tour, it’s a great way to make friends, meet new people and have the ultimate student experience - and all as cheap as chips!
