Programme Commitments and Benefits

LEAP and MedLEAP are designed to work alongside your Post-16 studies by offering you information, advice and guidance on University and supporting your development of key interpersonal and study skills. These skills will support you through your current studies and on into university and/or your professional career.

 

 

Programme Commitments:

In order to a take full advantage of the programme benefits you will need to:

  • successfully complete all core activities and fulfil any assessed requirements 
  • undertake a series of optional activities (chosen by you) to accrue a minimum of 80 LEAP/MedLEAP points
  • proactively engage with you assigned student e-mentor throughout the programme

This will mean spending on average about 1 - 1.5 hours each week engaging with some form of LEAP / MedLEAP activity and be proactive in communicating with and engaging with all elements of LEAP and MedLEAP.

Programme Benefits:

There are a range of benefits and advantages available to you by engaging in our LEAP and MedLEAP programme. These include:

  • Experiencing what it could be like for you to study and live as a student at a university such as Leicester .
  • Developing and honing your skills that will support your current school and college studies. We will provide you with support in areas like research, academic writing, time management, independent learning and team working.
  • Having greater access to staff and students from the University and a dedicated student e-mentor who will guide you through the programme.
  • Receiving additional support and guidance about making an informed decision about your university choices and better understanding the admissions process.

Additional Benefits:

For students who successfully complete all required elements of the programme and choose to study here at the University of Leicester you will receive:

  • An alternative entry offer* recognising your successful completion of the programme which equates to:
    • Up to 2 A level grades below our standard entry offer or
    • Up to 2 International Baccalaureate points below our standard entry offer (subject to a 26 point minimum) or
    • 1 full BTEC National Diploma grade below our standard entry offer
  • A financial support package to support your learning and living costs here at Leicester.  

*Please note that participation in LEAP/MedLEAP does not guarantee an offer from the University of Leicester and course restrictions may apply.
- Medicine with a foundation year is not eligible for the MedLEAP alternative offer.
