Summer Schools and Residential Events

Duration: Usually 4-7 days

Participants/target audience: Yr 8, 9 and 10 from a Widening Participation cohort

Residential Summer Schools aim to give students a realistic and enjoyable taste of University life. Students stay in University Halls of Residence and take part in fun and interactive learning activities each day on campus, working in small teams with experienced Student Mentors.

Summer Schools are usually focused on a general theme such as Science or a
specific subject area such as Engineering, Chemistry or
Genetics. Students say Summer Schools increase their confidence, help them develop social and interpersonal skills and give them a clearer focus on their future options.

The University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy hosts residential events for young people as part of their Space School UK programme (Junior Space School for ages 13-15 and Senior Space School for ages 16-18). For more information please visit their website:
