Immigration Health Surcharge

Immigration Health Surcharge

As part of your  Student visa application, you will be asked to make a payment for Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). The exact amount you have to pay depends on how much leave (visa) you are granted. If you are applying for another visa category, you can check if you need to pay here.

The I.H.S will cover costs towards your medical care with NHS (This includes treatment with Covid 19). However, this does not include cost towards prescriptions, dental care, eye care and wigs and fabric support.

The cost of Immigration Health Surcharge can be found here. https://www.gov.uk/healthcare-immigration-application/how-much-pay

Each applicant will be required to pay £470 for a full year. You will pay for a whole year if your application includes part of a year that is more than 6 months. You will pay half of the yearly amount, if your application includes part of a year that is less than 6 months.

You can calculate the exact amount you are required to pay, using this calculator here;

Dependants usually need to pay the same amount as you.

You will be required to take your Biometric Residence Permit with you when you access healthcare in the UK.
