Non payment of accommodation fees

If you do not pay your accommodation fees within the agreed times, or do not contact the University and agree a payment plan, we will start our process for collecting the accommodation fees that you owe. The details of the process is provided below.

The University can start legal proceedings against you to recover any outstanding monies. This could affect your long term credit record and affect your ability to get a loan or mortgage in the future.

Process to recover accommodation fees

We will send you a reminder by email to your University of Leicester email address 14 days before your payment is due, to ensure you know what to pay and when.

First Communication

Reminder seven calendar days (one week) after due date:

If you do not make an instalment payment in full and on time, you will receive a reminder email from us seven calendar days after the date your instalment was due for payment. This will remind you that a payment is overdue, detail the amount and give you seven days to make payment.

Second Communication

Second notice of overdue payment 14 calendar days (two weeks) after due date

If you do not make your payment, or agree a payment plan, within that seven day period, you will receive a second email detailing that your accommodation fees are now two weeks overdue.

Third Communication

Final notice of overdue fees 21 days (three weeks) after due date

If you have not paid or agreed a payment plan within those seven calendar days, you will receive a third email stating that your accommodation fees are now overdue and the debt will be transferred to a third party to begin debt recovery if payment is not made within seven days.
Student Fees and Income Management will also try and contact you by phone and/or personal email account to discuss your outstanding fee position.

If your debt is transferred to a third party agent for debt recovery then your credit score could be affected which could affect your ability to receive credit in the future. You could also incur legal costs on top of the original instalment value.

Forth Communication

Debt transfer confirmation 28days (four weeks) after due date

If you do not pay the fee within the seven calendar day deadline, your debt will be transferred to a third party for debt recovery. Your credit score could be affected which could affect your ability to receive credit in the future. You could also incur legal costs on top of the original instalment value.
