Session Overview

Together with the Director of the Doctoral College, you will explore the main issues to be considered at the three different stages involved in examining a doctoral thesis – preparing for the viva, during the viva and after the viva. The session takes you through the process of assessing a research degree; the role of the internal and external examiners; the structure and content of the viva itself, as well as Leicester regulations and the possible outcomes.

Aimed At Academic and Research Staff

Prof Dave Lambert is a Professor of Anaesthetic Pharmacology. He trained as a biologist before completing his PhD in diabetes research. He made the post-doctoral switch to pharmacology at Leicester where he has spent his career to date researching opioids (analgesics), supervising research students and teaching at all levels. Dave is the Grants Officer for the National Institute for Academic Anaesthesia. He has been awarded the Humphrey Davy medal, was elected Chair of the Board of the British Journal of Anaesthesia and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
