University of Leicester Festival of Careers provides employers chance to pick from the best

Issued for University of Leicester on 16 March 2018

Businesses from across Leicestershire and beyond are being invited to take part in a flagship careers event at the University of Leicester.

Bookings open this week (March 16th) for businesses to register their place for the Festival of Careers taking place in October.

This year the Festival will span across 3 weeks and will include a selection of fairs, talks, workshops and employability sessions known as ‘fringe events’ to help students explore their future options and meet employers.

Unique to this year, students will be able to download a dedicated app providing information on all the employers present, where they are located, and what kind of roles they are currently recruiting for. This provides students with a new and exciting way of finding out about employers beforehand, and help them prepare.

Jamie McDonald in the Career Development Service said: “Students are facing a tougher job market, and this year’s Festival will tackle this by engaging with more SMEs than ever before. These companies offer substantial opportunities and we are encouraging our students to engage with them in a dynamic way.”

The Festival is also an opportunity for SMEs to learn more about the support on offer from the university, particularly in the form of recruitment support and potential for placement student funding. The Career Development Service is actively looking to work with more SMEs, and help them to grow and develop – joining us at the Festival is a great way of starting that relationship.

The Festival consists of two distinct fairs and a host of fringe events:

Your Future Fair on October 17th and 18th which will play host to organisations from all over the UK. Students will have the chance to discover opportunities from a range of sectors, offering graduate roles, vacation schemes, internship and placement opportunities, and further study opportunities

On October 24th, the Law Fair will bring together a large range of legal firms to help students navigate through the world of legal work after graduation.

Jamie added:  “This is the biggest chance in the year to give students the opportunity to engage with employers from all over the country, and find out about what opportunities are out there, provide a chance to network and celebrate the transition into the working world. For employers, this is a fantastic place to meet our brilliant, diverse and talented students, and to recruit to their workforce.”
