Over the next couple of weeks, students will be arriving back in Leicester to continue their academic studies and enjoy some of the best years of their lives.

To welcome them back, the University of Leicester’s Division of External Relations has produced a video poem featuring the University’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Boyle.

The film shows Professor Boyle in a variety of locations on the University’s vibrant campus explaining some of the changes that have taken place over the summer in order to further enhance their university experience.

Some of those improvements include:

  • Creating 80 additional study spaces in the award-winning David Wilson Library
  • New mobile-friendly library catalogue search
  • Permanent Chinese food outlet in the Students’ Union
  • Introduction of Flourish Fair – a two-day event to support returning students’ transition into the next year of study
  • University ID card can now be used to purchase food and other items on campus

Professor Boyle, said: “Over the summer, we have implemented a number of new and additional services to further our on-going commitment to enhancing the student experience at Leicester.

“We want to ensure that all of our students – not just our new first year students - are made aware of the fantastic services and support on offer to them while studying here to help them get the very best out of their time at University.

“This video, once again demonstrates the creativity of our fantastic in-house video team, who are forever finding new ways for us to engage with our students.”

Students can expect a jam-packed timetable of events and activities during Welcome Week which kicks off on Monday 25 October, including a range of information fairs – from sports clubs, societies and volunteering.

Welcome Back

All summer long we've been working,

Changes, improvements never shirking our duty to provide the best for you.

We're turning the reading room into a digital workplace,

The library's been packed with new study space,

If you've got a question… we've got answers to them all - just give our Student Services Centre a call.

We've renovated, innovated, activated and now from every corner of the UK, every corner of the world you've returned.

Open your case,

Welcome back.
