Acclaimed author Adele Parks will divulge her route to writing success on 15 November

University of Leicester alumna and author of seventeen bestselling novels Adele Parks will be speaking at Literary Leicester on Wednesday 15 November.

Aspiring authors and literature enthusiasts will have the chance to hear Adele discuss her literary career at Literary Leicester - the University of Leicester’s annual celebration of the written and spoken word.

After graduating from the University of Leicester in 1990, where she studied English Language and Literature, Adele published her first novel, Playing Away, in 2000 - when the Evening Standard immediately identified her as one of London’s ‘Twenty Faces to Watch’.

Adele has since sold over three million copies of her fiction in the UK, and her works have been translated into 26 different languages. She also writes numerous articles and short stories for national magazines and newspapers, and often appears on radio and TV to talk about her writing and related matters.

Her novels often focus on the complexities of interpersonal relationships, scrutinising fixed assumptions about love, parenting, fidelity and friendships.

In a recent article Adele wrote about the School of Arts and her time at the University of Leicester, she said: “I can’t give you any insight into other universities, […] all I can say is that Leicester worked for me.

“I adored my course. A subtle mix of subjects that I felt familiar with, but wanted to study to a more profound level and a number of esoteric areas that were challenging and inspiring.”

In 2009 Parks was awarded an honorary doctorate, a Doctor of Letters, by Teesside University.

This free evening event will be held from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm in the Peter Williams Lecture Theatre of the University of Leicester’s Fielding Johnson Building, South Wing.

Professor Martin Stannard, the festival’s Director, said: “It is an enormous pleasure to welcome Adele back as one of our most distinguished graduates. She has an astonishing publication record. For anyone interested in creative writing as a career, this talk is a must. Book early. She has a lot of fans!”
