University of Leicester launches its own MONOPOLY game

The University of Leicester is to launch its very own MONOPOLY game at an event designed to help students de-stress during the exam period on Friday 13 January.

In this version, players can choose to buy the David Wilson Library, Centre for Medicine, the Attenborough Tower’s paternoster and even Victoria Park. The COMMUNITY CHEST and CHANCE cards have also been tailored for the University’s version of the popular game.

The game is being launched in conjunction with the University of Leicester Students’ Union campaign designed to help students tackle exam stress as part of the University’s ongoing commitment to offering support for those dealing with the challenges of stress and mental health.

Students can take a break from revision and play the new University of Leicester MONOPOLY game along with a whole host of other games available all day on Friday 13 January in the Percy Gee Square.

The game was designed with input from staff, students and alumni of the University and those who provided three winning ideas have been chosen to receive free copies of the game. These will also be announced via social media on Friday.

All of the artwork was designed by the University’s Creative Team and the game was created in conjunction with Winning Moves, developers of MONOPOLY, under official license from Hasbro.

Sam Winter, Senior Marketing Officer at the University of Leicester, said: “It’s great that the University of Leicester now has its own edition of MONOPOLY. The game was created with input from the University community who sent in suggestions for board locations and COMMUNITY CHEST and CHANCE cards, and it will be good to see our students taking a break from revision to play our version of the game on Friday.”

Georgie Tansell, Sales and Marketing Manager of the University of Leicester Students’ Union, said: “We’re looking forward to launching the University’s very own edition of MONOPOLY during one of the many events we have organised as part of January’s de-stress campaign. It would make a great gift or memento for staff, students and alumni, in particular, to remind them of their time here.

“We recognise that this time of year is very important for our students and we are keen to give them all the support we can. We have a great team here that provide excellent support during exam season, but we feel it is imperative to provide students with a variety of activities to help them counter stress.”

Other activities on offer to students during the winter exam period include puppy rooms, yoga classes and exam breakfasts. The student executive team will also be granting wishes of students via the Twitter hashtag #LeicesterLove
