A number of exciting events to promote good health and wellbeing will be hosted by the University of Leicester as part of Wellbeing Week 2017, between 27 February and 3 March.

As part of Wellbeing Week a number of events will be organised by the Students’ Union, including a mental health workshop, a Fancy Dress Fun Run through Victoria Park, and a Performance Showcase at The Exchange.

The events will be hosted by a number of University societies, including the Mental Health Awareness and Support (MHAS) Society, the Islamic Society and the University of Leicester Running and Athletics Club.

The Fancy Dress Fun Run will raise money for Student Minds, the national student mental health charity.

Harriet Smailes, Wellbeing Officer in the University’s Students’ Union and an organiser of Wellbeing Week, said: “Being at University is an incredibly unique environment and while this can be exciting for some, it can also bring about a whole host of issues which require students, and staff, to have to more carefully look after their wellbeing.

“We created this week in order to support everyone on campus in taking some time for themselves and supporting others to do so too.

“I hope there is something for everyone during the week so I strongly encourage all University of Leicester and Students’ Union Staff and Students to protect and promote wellbeing on campus!”

Anisha Parmar, Equalities Officer at the University, said: “Wellbeing Week is really important to me as I have and know people around me who have suffered from a form of mental health; anxiety, stress and depression to name a few.

“Weeks like this raise the importance of speaking up and reaching out to each other. The Union and University have put on a number of key activities that will help engage students and staff to speak up about mental and physical health.

“We all should be able to confidently express our emotions and feelings with each other. I therefore actively encourage you all to participate where possible whether it is Tai Chi or even joining in with the Laughter Yoga Session”
