Issued by University of Leicester Press Office on 11 May 2016

The University of Leicester will recognise the entrepreneurial skills of Leicestershire college students at a prize-giving ceremony.

Taking place on Thursday 12 May in at the King Power Stadium – the home of Champions - the night marks the grand finale of the 2016 ‘Entrepreneurs of the Future’ competition, run by the Colleges University of Leicester Network (CULN) group at the University of Leicester, supported by prominent entrepreneurial figures within Leicester.

Elliot Newstead, Senior Student Recruitment Officer at the University of Leicester, said: “The competition, now in its fifth year, has seen budding entrepreneurs across Leicestershire further education and Sixth Form colleges competing to win over a panel of ‘dragons’ with their business ideas. Along the way, they’ve received expert advice about business start-up and pitching an idea before presenting their projects to a ‘Dragon’s Den’ panel.”

Given the theme of ‘Tech Start-Ups, ideas pitched to the Dragons included:

  • A children’s teddy with a built in tablet with educational apps
  • A kitchen steamer for users with accessibility difficulties
  • An extendable plug socket that can be built into walls

It is hoped that this annual competition provides a platform for young business-minded students in colleges to showcase their business skills and creative nous to leading entrepreneurs in Leicestershire.

Elliot added: “Please join us to help celebrate the achievement of the young talent in our region.”
