Sir David Attenborough visit to the University of Leicester: Media registration deadline and operational note

MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES: Thursday 28 & Friday 29 January

Thursday 28 January at 4.30pm at De Montfort Hall

  • There will be a photo opportunity (no interviews) in the Green Room with Sir David; Lord Grocott, University Chancellor; Professor Paul Boyle, President and Vice-Chancellor; and winners of a competition to ask Sir David questions following his lecture, which starts at 5pm.
  • Media can obtain press tickets to the lecture. Please note that for copyright reasons relating to the content of the lecture no photographs/recordings are permitted during the lecture.

Media must register for their press tickets and the photo opportunity by e-mailing pt91@le.ac.uk by 12noon on Wednesday 27 January. Please arrive at the Box Office at the front of De Montfort Hall and meet a representative of the Press Office holding a placard with the word ‘Press’. Media must be in situ by 4.20pm on Thursday 28 January.

Sir David will be delivering the University’s flagship Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture on Beauty in Nature. All public tickets have been allocated.

Friday 29 January at Attenborough Arts, Lancaster Road, Leicester, LE1 7HA

Media are being invited to film/photograph Sir David Attenborough’s tour and opening of the new gallery wing of Attenborough Arts.

Media must arrive between 10am - 10.20am and report to Ather Mirza and Peter Thorley in the Attenborough Arts Centre. All media must wear press credentials at all times.

There are four opportunities for media:

  • 10.30am - Photographers and cameramen can follow Sir David Attenborough as he arrives and tours the new gallery and exhibition. Filming/photos only - no press questions until the following Q&A.
  • 10.50am – Sir David will give a 10-15 minute Q&A session with assembled media.
  • 11.05am – 11.50am – the News Centre will allocate time and create a rota for pre-registered media to conduct one-to-one interviews (if possible) with Sir David. Register your attendance by e-mailing pt91@le.ac.uk by 12noon on Wednesday 27 January.
  • 12noon – Media can attend and record/photograph opening speeches by Professor Paul Boyle, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester, and Sir David Attenborough, and the unveiling of a dedication plaque.

The artists Lucy and Jorge Orta will be available for media interviews to discuss the opening exhibition before and after the unveiling.

There are no other filming/photographic or interview opportunities available.

Parking

Parking is available for pre-registered media on both days. Media must register for parking by 12noon on Wednesday 27 January. Please send the name of your media organisation and how many space required to pt91@le.ac.uk. There is no facility for parking at Attenborough Arts.
