Partnership working between the University of Leicester, Leicester City Council and the Diocese of Leicester has been recognised with a Gold CIPR PRide Award.

The award, presented at a gala event in Birmingham, was presented with the following citation:

The CIPR Midlands Committee awarded this Special Recognition Award to recognise the collaboration between the University of Leicester, Leicester City Council and the Diocese of Leicester to deliver the communications activity around the Reinterment of Richard III at Leicester Cathedral. This historic event attracted international interest and through comprehensive media management, the PR team ensured the message of Dignity and Respect for Richard III was carried through in all communications activity.

The award was accepted by Liz Hudson, Nick Clarke and Keith Cousins from Leicester Cathedral and Ather Mirza from the University of Leicester.

Ather Mirza, Director of News and Corporate Events at the University of Leicester, said: “It is a testament to how highly the Richard III communications effort and partnership working is regarded that we were selected for this award.  The CIPR judges felt our work was so noteworthy that it deserved special recognition.”

Liz Hudson, Director of Communications for the Diocese of Leicester and Leicester Cathedral said: "It was a privilege to work with such a professional and skilled team of communicators to deliver a global phenomenon which has changed the face of our city and county in so many ways. It's an honour to have that recognised by one's own profession."

Debra Reynolds, Leicester City Council's Media & PR Manager, said: "The reinterment was the one of the biggest events the city has ever seen, and a lot of people gave their time and expertise to make it happen, and to tell the world about it.

"There is no doubt that Leicester has benefited tremendously as a result of the exposure it received,  and that was always our key objective."

A spokesperson for the CIPR said: “The CIPR PRide Awards recognise and reward outstanding work across 9 UK regions and nations. They are a celebration of exceptional talent and a reflection of public relations best practice. Only the highest calibre of experts, drawn from the very top of their fields are selected to judge our awards.

“Winning a PRide Award demonstrates the value of your work to your clients or Board and marks you out as an industry leader in your region.”
