More than 10,000 aspiring university students are converging upon the University of Leicester for the East Midlands UCAS convention to be held on Wednesday (April 22) and Thursday (April 23).

The convention is attended by approximately 10,000 year 12 students from across the East Midlands and beyond over the two days, with well over 100 UK universities exhibiting.

This will be the first time since 2001 that the University of Leicester has hosted the East Midlands convention.

Dr Tracy Carlton, Director of External Relations, said: “This event provides a major opportunity for the University of Leicester to showcase its facilities to nearly 10,000 prospective students from the local and regional area.

“The convention allows students to get a taste of the Leicester student experience and we very much welcome the opportunity to meet with staff and students from more than 80 schools and colleges.

“Following the discovery and identification of King Richard III and the TV series based on our discovery of genetic fingerprinting, the University of Leicester is prominent in the public eye and we are pleased to highlight what we have to offer to more visitors.”

A special marquee has been erected on campus and there are also events in the Charles Wilson Sports Hall and Queen’s Hall in the Students’ Union with a selection of seminars in Ken Edwards and Attenborough lecture theatres.
