Students took part in volunteering event, 'Good Deed Day'

The University successfully hosted a ‘Good Deed Day’ event on Monday 24 February as part of a high-profile national volunteering campaign.

More than 30 students were involved in painting, planting and donating around 300 plant pots across the Clarendon Park area to help celebrate Student Volunteering Week.

Good Deed Day encourages student volunteers to make a positive difference to their communities by performing a good deed.

Sophie Langton, Volunteering Project Co-ordinator at the University of Leicester, said:

“The students and everybody involved thoroughly enjoyed Good Deed Day - it’s been an incredible opportunity for students to meet new people, make new connections within their community and showcase their communication and team working skills.

“The event attracted a lot of media attention, including BBC radio, which visited campus and covered the event.

“We’ve received some very positive feedback from all involved, and we hope this will lead to future community projects where we can get more students involved with volunteering.”

Good Deed Day is the centrepiece event of Student Volunteering Week – a national campaign aimed at increasing student engagement with volunteering.GDD2

This year Student Volunteering Week was delivered and funded through a partnership between NUS and Student Hubs with the support of Barclays.

The University of Leicester was only one of ten institutions to have successfully received funding to run this year’s campaign.
