University of Leicester student volunteers are once again collecting gifts for disadvantaged children as part of the Toys on the Table charity appeal this Christmas, ahead of a big wrapping event on Thursday, 5 December.

Student group, Contact Volunteers, has been spreading festive cheer to local children by taking part in the project for several years, and are once again encouraging students, staff and members of the public to donate gifts.

The Toys on the Table initiative – which was established around 30 years ago – works in partnership with a range of local organisations across Leicestershire and Rutland with the aim of collecting gifts for thousands of children who would otherwise not receive any presents at Christmas.

Gifts are being collected ahead of a big wrapping event on Thursday, 5 December 2013 in the Percy Gee Building between 10:30am and 2.00pm. Any new toys (second hand not allowed) can be donated up until 2.00pm.

Toys can also be dropped off in the Activities Resources Centre (ARC), 1st Floor in the Students’ Union during the whole week, from 2 – 6 December.

Chandni Sandhu, Volunteering Project Co-ordinator at the University’s Career Development Service, said: “It’s great that University of Leicester staff and students can contribute to this fantastic cause and put smiles on the faces of children across the community through the Toys on the Table Appeal.”
