One of the most candid figures in UK banking is to give a free public lecture at the University of Leicester on banking today and the future of the industry.

Steve Pateman, FCIOBS, Executive Director and Head of UK Banking at Santander UK plc will discuss ‘The State of UK Banking’ on Thursday 2 May, hosted by the University’s Development and Alumni Relations Office and Santander Universities.

Steve said, “The UK is currently experiencing the longest recession in living memory and no single action will reverse the changes the world has seen.  The banking industry has a great influence on the strength of the economy, however with the added pressure of increased regulation, market confidence and political influence, redefining what success looks like will be paramount in order to make it in the new world. At Santander we have recognised the need to change now and have decided to lead our own revolution and get back to the basics of relationship banking.  Through this lecture at the University of Leicester I want to discuss with you openly, the state of UK Banking and how change in the industry can help provide a sustainable economic recovery”

Steve joined Santander in June 2008 and became Executive Director, Head of UK Banking in March 2012 with his appointment as a Member of the Santander UK Board confirmed in June 2011. Steve’s responsibility now covers Retail, Corporate, Commercial and Business Banking, incorporating all of Santander UK’s channels under his remit.
