University of Leicester picks up six top education marketing awards – including Marketing Department of the Year

The University of Leicester has won six awards – including the top award of Marketing Department of the Year – in a national competition showcasing marketing excellence.

The University’s communication work around the search and discovery of Richard III was described as having ‘astonishing impact’ by judges who awarded the University a Gold Award.

The Heist awards showcase the achievements of university and college marketing departments. They are now in their 24th year.

The University of Leicester won the following Gold awards- the most of any University in the country: marketing department of the year; best postgraduate prospectus; best PR/advocacy campaign.

There was a silver award for the University’s alumni work and a bronze for the undergraduate prospectus, and its student recruitment work received a highly commended certificate.

Commenting on the awards, Richard Taylor, Deputy Registrar, said: “ The awards are a testament to the great team we have here at Leicester.”

Leicester, Nottingham Universities dominate East Midlands’ share of Heist marketing awards

The University of Leicester has the Heist marketing department of the year in the annual awards for marketing initiatives, sponsored this year by The Complete University Guide.

Awarded a gold for a “simply outstanding” impressive, inclusive department where organisational strategy is truly driven by market intelligence and insight, Leicester also achieves golds for best postgraduate prospectus (sponsored by The Complete University Guide) and best PR/advocacy campaign, described as having an astonishing impact that showcased Leicester multi-disciplinary strengths.

Its alumni work merited a silver while its undergraduate prospectus was awarded a bronze and its student recruitment campaign was highly commended.

Nottingham’s gold was for its alumni work - a well thought out campaign with “brilliant” integration with the University's corporate identity. The university received a bronze award for its postgraduate prospectus which demonstrated an “amazing” increase in Facebook usage and a “very impressive” increase in attendance at virtual open days.

The university also secured a bronze in the overall marketing department of the year category.

The two regional rivals did not have it all their own way: the University of Derby was highly commended for its website.

Leicester is 16th in the latest Complete University Guide ranking, Nottingham is 24th and Derby 103rd.

Nova Jayne Robinson, director of The Complete University Guide Ltd and Constable & Robinson Ltd, said: “These two universities are leaders in the field in the region and in the country. Leicester in particular has achieved an extraordinary result.”

Simon Bracewell, of Havas People, organisers of the awards, said: “These annual awards showcase the sensational work that goes on in the further and higher education sectors. Entries this year wowed the judges once again. Institutions are undertaking some ground breaking work resulting some fantastic return on investment.”
