Awards for schools that have worked with Science Learning Centre East Midlands at the University of Leicester

Issued by University of Leicester on 11 October 2012

Nine Leicestershire Primary Schools have successfully completed The Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM) and will be awarded Gold or Silver Awards at a prestigious ceremony, being held at thinktank in Birmingham tomorrow evening (12 October).

Four of the local primary schools Booth Wood, Kibworth CofE, Rowlatts Hill and Leicester Montessori will be awarded Gold Awards and five schools; Sandfield Close, Linden, St Cuthberts, Launde and Riverside Community Primary will be awarded Silver Awards.

All the schools have worked closely with the Science Learning Centre East Midlands based at the University of Leicester. Claire Simpson, Deputy Director of the Centre said “This is a real achievement for the participating schools and they should be congratulated on their success and commitment to primary science. They have spent a year developing science in their schools and sharing good practice in their work as well as participating in professional development in order to increase the quality of teaching and learning in science.”

To gain the award, schools designed and implemented an action plan, which included teaching and learning approaches, pupil engagement and work with external organisations.
