Academic speaks at the East Midlands Association of Classical Teachers

The University of Leicester’s Dr Naoíse Mac Sweeney of the School of Archaeology and Ancient History presented at the East Midlands Association of Classical Teachers event (EMACT) hosted by the university on the 15th of November, speaking to a large body of individuals including 91 students and 12 teachers. It was the first time Leicester hosted for the organisation, and provided a great opportunity for the university to strengthen its links with the independent schools in the region.

The event offered tables with department degree course information and Schools and College Services. A series of seminars were run, including talks about the works of Homer and Virgil, with Dr Mac Sweeney presenting on the topic of ‘Olympia’. 10 student volunteers were on hand during breaks to discuss being a student at Leicester and how they coped with A Levels, encouraging audience participation and collecting useful feedback.

The successful event took place in the Fraser Noble Hall in the Fraser Noble building, 2 University Road. Refreshments were available.
