University of Leicester experts to present at county forum

Two specialists on human rights associated with the University of Leicester are to address a countywide forum this month.

Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, Councillor Peter Lewis, will Chair the event, on the theme of Religion, Equalities Law and Human Rights, on Monday 19 November.

Councillor Lesley Pendleton, who is Leicestershire County Council's Cabinet Lead member for Equality and Diversity, said: "The issue of equality and human rights is one which is important to us all. As a County Council, we pride ourselves on our ongoing commitment to challenging prejudice and discrimination. We are keen to promote opportunities for members of all communities, regardless of faith, ethnicity or cultural background."

Dr Halla Diyab is the founder of the independent production company, Liberty Media Productions, which is based in Leicester and London. An award winning Syrian writer, filmmaker, broadcaster and women’s rights activist, Dr Diyab has regularly appeared as a Middle East expert in both British and foreign media. She has also presented talk shows on Egyptian TV and has a further local connection, having completed her PhD at the University of Leicester. Dr Diyab will be providing an international perspective on Human Rights, Equalities and Religion.
