Student learn to become arts leaders for Embrace Arts project

Issued by Embrace Arts on 15 May 2012

Year 10 students from Ellesmere College, Leicester are working with Embrace Arts and Dance 4 to co-ordinate their own dance day to gain skills and experience as young arts leaders.

The 10 students have programmed, organised and promoted the day, taking place at Embrace Arts, the University of Leicester’s arts centre, on Thursday 17 May.

Marianne Pape, Education and outreach officer for Embrace Arts, said:

"The Ellesmere students are an absolute pleasure to work with and their enthusiasm and commitment to creating an exciting dance day for young people is boundless. It will be great to see how they will use their new leadership skills to continue to organise arts events at their school."

This is a new area of work for Embrace Arts, Ellesmere College and Dance 4, and will provide new pathways for children and young people interested in taking part in the arts in Leicester.

The Ellesmere students are working towards their Bronze Youth Arts Award, a qualification that accredits the leadership skills they have developed while working on the project.
