‘I Love My Academic’ campaign from University of Leicester Students’ Union

Issued by University of Leicester Press Office on 9 March 2012

The University of Leicester’s award-winning campaign to highlight outstanding teaching will return next week, as students get the chance to vote for their favourite academic.

I Love My Academic, a campaign started by the Students’ Union in 2010, allows students to nominate an academic who they believe has been particularly engaging, innovative or supportive in their teaching.

After the votes have been cast, a winner is announced for each of the University’s four colleges – the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology, the College of Science and Engineering, the College of Social Science and the College of Arts, Humanities and Law.

The scheme won a bronze award for best internal communications campaign at the Euro RSCG Heist awards last year.

Students will be able to log on to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/lovemyacademic2012 and cast their votes from March 12 to March 30. The winners will be announced online soon afterwards.

Alex Nutt, Academic Affairs Officer at the University of Leicester Students’ Union, said: “The ‘I Love My Academic’ award is a fantastic award recognising high quality teaching, excellent student support and going the extra mile to improve the student experience whilst at Leicester.

“Entering the 3rd successive year of the award, it is becoming increasingly recognised by the University as a mark of quality if an academic achieves it. It also works to improve the standard of teaching across the institution by accrediting those academics that are the best in the University.

“Academics rarely get direct praise from students as they work extremely hard, and ‘I Love My Academic’ provides students with the opportunity to give their opinion as to who provides the highest quality of teaching at the University. It also empowers students to have a more active role in their learning.”
