Football, the Olympics and Muggle Quidditch are among the topics and attractions at the University of Leicester Summer Reunion on Saturday 30th June.

The University of Leicester's Summer Reunion and Open Day is the annual reunion for graduates, staff, family and friends of the university. It is also open to local people in the vicinity of the University who can register for free places at www.le.ac.uk/alumni/reunion.

The campus will be transformed for a fun day of social events, lectures, workshops and activities for all the family to enjoy. The event also provides opportunities to explore the work of leading Departments and listen to discussions on topical issues.

Professor Rob Colls, from the School of Historical Studies, will give the Keynote Lecture on the topical yet contentious subject of "England and the Olympics". Professor Colls may also be familiar from helping comedian Alan Carr find his family history on BBC1's "Who Do You Think You Are?"

There will be lectures, demonstrations, workshops and tours throughout the day from Chemistry, English, GENIE (Genetics Education Networking for Innovation and Excellence), the Medical School, Physics, Geology and Social Sciences. Activities will also be available at Embrace Arts - the University’s Arts Centre, as well as tours being offered around the Library and the many sculptures on Campus.

Among the events is a lively demonstration entitled 'A Little Gas: Chemistry Potions and Explosions', and John Williams from the Department of Sociology invites you to consider the contention that:  'You Only Sing When You're Winning: Confessions of a Football Fan Scholar'. If you're interested in Climate Change, fancy watching some Quidditch or just want to try making ice cream, there is something for everyone!

Children can enjoy the fairground rides, face-painting and balloon models, and also a Teddy Bear Hospital hosted by the Medical School for those poorly toys. There is also the popular annual magic show at lunchtime. Lunches are free for under-12s if ordered in advance.

The event continues in the evening with a Quiz, Curry and Karaoke at 6pm, followed by the Re:Union Disco at 8pm in the Scholar.
