The University of Leicester's annual Alumni Dinner welcomes a special guest this year - Honorary Graduate Sir Terry Wogan, who received a Doctor of Laws from the University in 2010.

University of Leicester graduates old and new will have a chance to meet and mingle with the famous broadcaster at the black tie Alumni Dinner, taking place this Thursday 9 February at London's world-class Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hyde Park.

The Alumni Dinner takes place every year, with Leicester graduates coming from around the globe to enjoy a night of fine dining and a chance to reconnect with long-lost friends. This year's special guest Sir Terry Wogan is a long-time friend of the University, as well as a renowned radio broadcaster, TV presenter and writer.

University Development Manager Sharon Raynor, who is overseeing the event, said: "It's a real thrill to have Sir Terry Wogan joining us this year for the annual Alumni Dinner. This is the third year we've organised the Alumni Dinner and the events have proved hugely popular in the past. Having Sir Terry come along will be great fun and an opportunity for our alumni to meet one of our most famous honorary graduates."

Sir Terry Wogan has been a regular guest of the University of Leicester and the annual TOGs Convention has taken place at the University for a number of years. He has returned time and again thanks to the warm welcome he and his loyal listeners receive for the three-day convention, and in 2010 the University awarded him an honorary degree. He is well known for his radio and TV broadcasting career, and he has presented the Children in Need live fundraising show since its inception.

At this year's black tie Alumni Dinner, Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Bob Burgess and other academics will talk on the successes of the University, and the "Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award 2012" will be presented to a Leicester graduate who has made a significant contribution to society.

Booking for the event is now closed, but photos from the dinner will be available on the University's website soon. Please check the Alumni page at http://www2.le.ac.uk/alumni
