One of the principal horticultural designers of the 2012 London Olympic Park is to give the 2011 Botanic Garden Lecture at the University of Leicester on Thursday 13th October at 8pm.

In his lecture entitled ‘New Public Planting: creating healthy cities and liveable places’, Professor Nigel Dunnett of the Department of Landscape, University of Sheffield, will look at the naturalistic planting designs he has developed with his Sheffield colleague Professor James Hitchmough.

His talk will be richly illustrated with case studies and examples, including their large-scale work at the London 2012 Olympic Park, where they are the principle horticulture and planting design consultants, responsible for dramatic meadow landscapes and the 1km long 2012 gardens

Professor Dunnett will show how planting can create supremely beautiful settings that address many of the environmental problems that we face in cities today.

Although Professor Dunnett's work is focused on urban and public places, there has been great interest in his approaches by garden designers and gardeners, and his talk will show how anyone can apply his ideas in their own backyards.

Professor Nigel Dunnett’s talk, ‘New Public Planting: creating healthy cities and liveable places’, will take place in Ken Edwards lecture Theatre 1, University of Leicester on Thursday 13th October at 8pm.

This is a public lecture, admission is free. No booking is required.
