Embrace Arts joins Own Art scheme during 25th anniversary of Leicester Print Workshop

Issued by Embrace Arts on 2 December 2011

If you have ever yearned to build up your own art collection but never felt able to afford any of the artworks on display in galleries then help is at hand.

Embrace Arts, the University of Leicester’s Arts Centre, can now help art lovers to buy works of art and crafts on display in the Embrace Arts gallery, through the Own Art scheme.

The scheme offers interest free credit over ten months to buy artworks costing between £200 and £2,000, making the art of your choice highly affordable.

Own Art, run by Arts Council England, operates countrywide and online to enable people to purchase contemporary art or crafts from 250 galleries.   More information can be seen on the Own Art website: http://www.ownart.org.uk/.

Embrace Arts staff will be delighted to help would-be art collectors to complete the necessary documentation.

Visual Arts Manager at Embrace Arts, Stella Couloutbanis, commented:   “We are extremely pleased that we have Own Art at Embrace Arts, it does make the purchasing of contemporary art and crafts more accessible.

“This scheme allows people to be a little more adventurous in buying more expensive artworks, as they can spread the cost instead of having to pay in one single payment. Own Art opens doors for people to have original works of art at affordable costs.

“As for the advantages: Own Art makes it easy to apply for the interest free loan through Embrace Arts, the buyer knows exactly the costs of the ten monthly payments and they can own an original piece of artwork!”

Exhibitions which are currently on show at Embrace Arts include unique crafts by some of the region’s top makers as well as works in the highly popular ‘Print Out’ exhibition, which comes to an end on 9 December.

‘Print Out’ marks the 25th anniversary of Leicester Print Workshop and the tenth year of the University of Leicester’s annual ‘Sculpture in the Garden’ exhibition and features thirty artists from around the UK and from Portugal.

Admission to Embrace Arts is free and its galleries are open between 10am and 6pm Monday to Friday.   For weekend opening and information on events and classes please contact Embrace Arts, tel 0116 252 2455, or visit the website www.embracearts.co.uk
