Space Park Leicester: Factfile

  • Based at Pioneer Park, and near to the National Space Centre, Space Park Leicester will officially open its doors at end of April 2021, with a second phase building opening later in 2021.
  • Space Park Leicester has been developed in collaboration with a host of local and national partners including Leicester and Leicestershire Economic Partnership, Leicester City Council, UK Research and Innovation, and National Centre for Earth Observation.
  • Space Park Leicester will be a world-leading site for innovative research, enterprise and education in Space and Earth Observation. It will provide a unique space for collaboration and will be the home for academic and research staff and students from the University of Leicester and industry partners.
  • Space Park Leicester will help provide market access to smaller start-ups, and will host the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre. It will support the development of over 200 high-value jobs and build an extremely talented and high-value space workforce, working with partners to help address existing skills gaps in the space sector.
  • Space Park Leicester will further the UK Government’s ambition to win 10% of the global space market by 2030.
  • Space Park Leicester will be a state-of-the-art 10,000m2 science, innovation and commercial infrastructure providing partners with office space, laboratories, high performance computing and digital infrastructure, space technology design and prototyping, and a Creative Design Facility.
  • Space Park Leicester will be the home of the METEOR research programme focusing on separate research strands including Earth Observation, AI Research, and Robotics for Space Engineering.
  • Space Park Leicester will be the new home of the National Centre for Earth Observation.
  • Extra space for businesses will be available at the nearby Dock 1 and 2, currently being developed by Leicester City Council.
