New two-part ITV fictional drama based on the discovery of DNA fingerprinting at the University of Leicester

In October 2014, a film crew from ITV descended onto campus for a two-day shoot for a new drama, Code of a Killer. The fictional drama, based on the first criminal case to be solved using DNA fingerprinting - a technique developed by Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys at the University of Leicester 30 years ago - stars Doctor Who actor John Simm as Sir Alec and Shameless actor David Threlfall as Detective David Baker who first approached Sir Alec about his technique.

Both Sir Alec and David were instrumental in the series, with Sir Alec even having a walk-on role; Dr Ed Hollox, Lecturer in Genetics at the University acted as Scientific Advisor to the film crew and 100 students appeared as student extras in lecture theatre scenes.

The first episode of the much-anticipated series is set to air on Monday 6 April, ITV1, 9-10.30pm and the second one the following week.
