Peer Observation Training

Training is seen as essential as agreed and explicit criteria for judgement are paramount to the credibility of the scheme. Peer observers will need training in using the criteria for the observation of teaching and the ability to provide effective feedback to observees on their teaching.

Relationship with other review procedures

Peer observation of teaching is independent of other procedures and is not linked to promotion and appraisal procedures.

Staff are encouraged to include the results of their peer observation of teaching in their portfolio to demonstrate excellence in teaching.


A short report on the completion of each department’s operation of the scheme is sent to the relevant College Academic Committee.
