Duncan described how online marking using GradeMark was implemented in the School of Biological Sciences.  GradeMark was used to mark the work of over 300 1st year students in semester one. There were remarkably few problems with GradeMark itself, with both staff and students adapting well to the change. The difficulties were the integration with other university systems such as SITS, and how to share feedback with personal tutors.  Key factors in the success of the implementation were linking the change to online marking with a redesign of the first year modules and leadership from the head of learning and teaching.
