Summary

Since 2007 the Department of Chemistry at Leicester has taken a leading role in four Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) funded projects to develop innovative, research-based approaches to teaching and learning the subject which integrate workplace skills in the core chemistry curriculum.  These projects were informed by the results of an RSC study into the level of workplace skills of chemistry graduates which included consultation with employers and graduates.  The RSC study revealed a significant deficiency in the perceived workplace skills of chemistry graduates in the period 2006-08. This talk will provide an overview of the work done to address this issue here at Leicester over the past eight years and will include some discussion of the impact of our work beyond this institution.
