Responsibilities/biography

Steve works across all Colleges to support the development of students’ learning. This involves close and regular collaboration with academics and LLI colleagues to ensure that support is fully integrated into mainstream learning and teaching practices. More recently, this has also involved supporting a range of partnership projects in which staff and students work together to co-design, co-develop and co-evaluate support for learning development. Prior to working in HE, Steve worked in FE, teaching and supporting learning across a range of subjects and levels of study, including GCSE and A-level History.

Expertise

Steve has particular experience and expertise in the following areas:

  • Integrating support for students’ learning development into mainstream curricula
  • Supporting learning in transition (e.g. A-level to UG, UG to PGT)
  • Supporting the development of students’ writing
  • Facilitating staff-student partnerships to co-design and co-develop learning and teaching
  • Developing critically reflective approaches to learning and teaching

Teaching

Steve teaches students and staff across a broad range of disciplines and levels of study. In particular, his teaching focuses on the following themes:

  • Negotiating the transitions to HE-level study (students)
  • Developing writing across a range of genres (essays, reports, dissertations etc.) (students)
  • Managing individual and group projects (students)
  • Integrating support for students’ academic transitions into mainstream curricula (staff)
  • Integrating support for students writing development into learning, teaching and assessment practices (staff)
