Presentation to Students' Union Council

A summary of the lecture capture presentation at the Students' Union Council on 10 December 2013.

Introduction

During the lecture capture pilot, the screen, video of the lecturer and audio will be recorded.  Students will watch the recordings through Blackboard.  Downloading of materials will be switched off.

We are initially trialling a system called Echo360 with five academics in four teaching rooms.  We will also be trialling Panopto in semester 2.

Questions

When will lecture capture be available at the University?

We do not have a definite date at the moment.  It will depending on funding and the procurement process.

Will it be compulsory for all lecturers to record their lectures?

No, and this is not the case at other Universities that have lecture capture.

Which departments are involved in the pilot?

Currently Maths, Medicine, Education and Law are involved in the pilot. More departments will join in semester 2.

Will lectures be made available outside the University?

Lectures recorded using lecture capture will only be available to members of the University.  Some lectures are currently shared outside the University using iTunesU.
