Aims of the project
The aims of the lecture capture pilot were to:
- Further understand the benefits of lecture capture for the University
- Evaluate the expectations of the University and students of lecture capture. These will be used to create a specification for a long term solution.
- Learn how lecture capture may shape or change learning practices
- Inform a set of guidelines and policies
- Understand the resource implications for IT Services
How did the pilot work?
The pilot involved a small group of approximately 10 academics and ran over both semesters. The Echo360 system was used during semesters 1 and 2, and Panopto was used during semester 2.
During the pilot:
- Each academic recorded a series of lectures
- Editing of the recordings were kept to a minimum, for example to remove unnecessary material at the start and end of a lecture
- The recordings included video, audio and slides
- Materials were published no more than 5 working days after the lecture
- Materials were left in place for the duration of the pilot
Evaluation
Evaluation included input from both staff and students.
