Find files stored on your computer C: drive

If you are working on a Windows 7 University desktop or laptop you won’t normally be able to save files to the C: drive unless you’ve specifically asked for this to be set up.
  1. Choose Start > Computer: (computer name)
  2. Go to C:\Local Data\

If you don’t have a folder with your username, you haven’t asked for access to your C: drive.

If you do have a folder with your username:

  1. Open the folder with your username
  2. Move any personal work files to Z:\My Documents
  3. Move any departmental files to your departmental X: drive
  4. Move any research files to your R: drive

If you are aware that you have saved files anywhere else on your C: drive move them to the appropriate network drive. Any files on the C: drive will be lost when the computer is replaced.
