What's New - December 2018

Blackboard was upgraded between the 15 December 2018 and 17 December 2018. Most of the changes in the new version are quite minor, but we have moved to a version that can be updated more easily and regularly.

Display changes

  • You will see a padlock symbol near the Student Preview and Edit Mode options at the top of the screen that indicates whether the course is available to students. Click the padlock to change the status.
    Course availability
  • The way Blackboard works on a smaller screen has changed. When using a desktop or laptop computer, you may find it works best to maximise your browser window. We recommend using Chrome rather than Safari on an iPad, as some features may not work correctly when using Safari.
  • The Grade Centre will temporarily be listed as the 'Mark Centre', but will change its name back to 'Grade Centre' by 4 January 2018.

Uploading files

You can drag and drop files into more locations, including the content editor (when adding a file using the paperclip option), Content Collection, blogs and journals.

Drag and drop files

  • Column headings in the Grade Centre now wrap, so you can see the whole heading.
  • You can delete multiple columns from the Grade Centre in one go, by going to Manage > Column Organisation.
  • If you are using the Blackboard assignments (created by choosing Assessments > Assignment) rather than Turnitin, your students will start receiving an email receipt for assignment submission. You can also set an additional attempt for students even when using anonymous marking.

Group working

  • When you create a new group, you can include a Blackboard Collaborate room for the group of students to use. This enables them to hold their own online meetings to facilitate group work.

  • There is a new option in the Discussion Board to see 'replies to me'.
