How can I use a student printer if staff printers are unavailable?

If the staff smart printers are not working, you may be able to print to a student printer instead. You can log into a student PC in a student PC area, or add a student printer to your staff PC manually.

Add a student printer

  1. Click on Start in the lower left corner, select Devices and Printers from menu

  2. Click on Add a printer from the top menu

  3. Select Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer option

  4. Choose The printer that I want isn't listed option

  5. Click the Select a shared printer by name button and enter the printer name \\student-printer\Black2Sided (or choose another student printer) in the box and click on Next

  6. You should get a message that you have added the printer, press Next

  7. If you do not want the student printer to be your default printer then deselect Set as the default printer. Then press Finish

If staff need to use a student printer it is not necessary to buy print credit. The cost of your printing will be charged to your staff account as normal and paid for by the University printing budget.
