Other devices and external contacts

Microsoft are in the process of changing from Lync to Skype for Business. You can continue to use Lync programs until they are updated.

  • External contacts: You can use Outlook to invite external contacts to meetings. They can access the meeting using the Skype for Business (Lync) Web App
  • Skype users: You can add anyone with a Skype ID to your Contacts and connect with them through Skype for Business on a PC
  • Other devices: You can install Skype for Business (Lync) on home PC, laptop, Mac, smart phone and tablet

Skype for Business Web App

You can use the Skype for Business Web App to join and participate in a meeting from a browser without the need for a Skype for Business account and without having to install Skype for Business. This makes it suitable for home use and means that you can use Outlook to invite people from outside the University of Leicester to join a meeting.

Other PCs and devices

Enter your University IT account username followed by @leicester.ac.uk and your University IT account password to login to any Skype for Business (Lync) program.

You can download a Lync app for your smart phone or mobile device.

Install Skype for Business on a home Windows computer

Staff and Postgraduate Researchers can install Skype for Business as part of the Office for home use package. You don't have to install the whole of Office 2013, once you have logged in you can install just the Skype for Business (Lync) program.

Use Skype for Business on a Mac

Staff and Postgraduate Researchers can install Skype for Business as part of the Office for home use package. You can also use the Skype for Business Web App.
