Access MyFiles using SFTP

As an alternative to using MyFiles on a web browser, it is also possible to view your Personal Z: drive using SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol).

You will need to install a program that supports SFTP such as WinSCP. If you are on-campus you can install this using the Program Installer, alternatively you can download WinSCP.

Setup WinSCP

  1. Open WinSCP from the start menu

    SFTP X: drive WinSCP

  2. Enter myfiles.le.ac.uk as the Host name

    SFTP X: drive hostname

  3. Enter your University IT account username as the User name

    SFTP X: drive username and password

  4. Click on Save... to remember your details

    SFTP X: drive save

  5. Enter a name to save your details and click OK

    SFTP X: drive save as

Use WinSCP

  1. Open WinSCP from the start menu

    SFTP X: drive WinSCP

  2. Select the connection you want to make and choose Login...

    SFTP X: drive login
  3. A message will appear referring to the 'server's host key'. Choose Yes to accept this.

  4. Enter your University IT account password and click OK

    SFTP X: drive password

  5. After a short time you will then be presented with the WinSCP interface showing your local files (C: drive) on the left and Personal Z: drive on the right.

    You can drag files between each window to download them to your local computer or upload to your Z: drive. Help, training and FAQs are provided on the WinSCP page.
