Responsibilities of a mailing list owner

As a mailing list owner, you have certain responsibilities for how the list is used.

  • You are responsible for ensuring that the use of the mailing list does not contravene: any law; any University regulation or any other policy relating to the use of computing facilities; or the JANET acceptable use policy.
  • You must not share your password to anyone.
  • You are responsible for the set-up and maintenance of the list options which affects the operation of the mailing list.
  • You are responsible for subscribing and unsubscribing members to the list, and for moderating the content of postings to the list.
  • You must ensure that any prospective moderator agrees to abide by, the responsibilities of a list owner as if they were the list owner. By appointing a moderator, the list owner agrees to take full responsibility for actions of the moderator.
