Upgrade your University Mac to macOS Mojave

If you have an Assured Mac you should now upgrade to macOS Mojave, if your Mac is compatible. It is essential to upgrade before the end of March. University Mac’s will be automatically upgraded after this date.

This is particularly important if your Mac is running El Capitan or Sierra. See find out which macOS your Mac is using.

What’s new?

The new Mojave upgrade introduces new features such as Dark Mode, Dynamic Desktop and Desktop Stacks. There are also improvements to the Camera, Safari Browser, Finder, and a redesigned App Store.

The University Mac guidePDF icon has been updated to reflect the changes which includes:

  • NoMAD, which keeps passwords in sync and helps to alleviate keychain-related issues
  • New security features, namely Transparency, Consent and Control (TCC)
  • This is the last version of macOS which supports 32-bit apps. Find out what you need to do if you use 32-bit apps

Is my Mac compatible?

If your Mac is not compatible with macOS Mojave, you will see an option to upgrade to High Sierra instead, which you should upgrade to as soon as possible.

How do I upgrade?

The upgrade will be available in Mac Self Service if your Mac is compatible:

  1. Click on OS Updates in the left hand menu
  2. Choose Upgrade to macOS Mojave or Upgrade to macOS High Sierra.

It is also possible to upgrade from the Mac App Store if you wish, but using Mac Self Service is recommended.

Manually Assured Mac users are also encouraged to upgrade to this OS version (using the App Store) if they haven’t already done so. Apple have provided some guidance:
