Who does it apply to?

Any member of staff or student using Blackboard

What are the key things to know?

  • Blackboard is the single supported Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) within the University. An alternative platform is only given where there are strong pedagogic reasons for its use
  • Responsibility for institutional use and policies relating to the VLE sit with the Academic Policy Committee
  • IT Services will check compatibility of core Blackboard functions with all core supported web browsers, and also other popular web browsers where possible
  • Upgrades to Blackboard, both major and minor are considered by the Learning Technology Advisory group and approved by the Learning Technologies Management Group
  • Upgrades are implemented by IT Services. If these involve complete withdrawal of access to Blackboard, they will be as far as possible be restricted to:
    • Major Scheduled Maintenance - duration of Summer degree congregations period
    • Minor Scheduled Maintenance - two days at the end of both Autumn and Spring terms
