Mobile phones and tablets

What are the key things to know?


  • Tablets are funded by departments, but must be purchased via IT Services so that there is a record of what assets the University has
  • If wifi is not sufficient, connection to the internet is provisioned by Vodafone at an additional cost
  • Tablets are paid for by the department. No business case for the purchase is required, however we may need to know the purpose of the machine depending on its storage capacity. Your department must approve the purchase and you must provide a charge code.

Mobile phones

  • The University mobile phone and data contract is with Vodafone. If Vodafone doesn’t provide adequate reception, you should contact the IT Service Desk for help.
  • You will need to have your request for a University mobile phone authorised by your department manager, after which it will be reviewed and confirmed by either IT Services or your College IT Manager. Your DITC (Departmental IT Contact) will then request the mobile phone on your behalf.
  • Mobile phones are paid for by the department. No business case is required and all that is needed is approval from the department manager and the cost code.
