The IT Operations Manager reports to the Deputy Director of Service Delivery.

The team:

  • Is responsible for all the daily operations, preventative maintenance, upgrades, reactive support and developments necessary to manage the IT Infrastructure and major business applications. It safeguards the stability of the entire production environment across four Data Centres and a distributed network spanning the University campus. Where applications are externally hosted, it is responsible for the daily management of the appropriate external supplier.
  • Play a key role in projects which will upgrade, enhance or otherwise impact the infrastructure, ensuring that systems are designed to be manageable, secure, robust and supportable, and can be smoothly transitioned into operation.
  • Sits at the heart of the service. It works closely with the Service Desk to enhance the first time fix rate as far as possible and provides second and third line support for issues that take longer to resolve. The team works extremely closely with members of several other teams, particularly those in Infrastructure Services, Messaging and Collaboration Services, and Application Services and is knowledgeable across the full range of technologies, systems and applications managed by IT Services. This includes data and voice networking, firewalls, servers (LINUX and Windows), storage and backup, High Performance Computing, the managed Windows environment (AD, Exchange, FIM etc.), unified communications platforms, the Virtual Learning Environment, Web Content Management and the major corporate information systems. It retains specialists in all of these areas.
