Upgrade to Sophos Antivirus software on University PCs – from Monday 7 May 2018

Sophos Endpoint Antivirus software will be upgraded on all University computers beginning Monday 7 May 2018 until Monday 21 May 2018. When it installs you should not experience any disruption, but you will need to restart your computer after the upgrade completes.

What?

The upgrade will take place in five phases starting on Monday 7 May 2018 until Monday 21 May 2018. If you have a University PC that is ‘Manually Assured’ this will be upgraded towards the end of the phases.

Once Sophos Central has installed on your computer, a notification to restart your computer will appear. A two-hour countdown will begin before your PC is automatically restarted. However, you can restart at any point before this time.

For staff PCs, the upgrade will begin at around 3.30pm so it should be possible to shut down your computer at the end of the working day, in order to minimise disruption.  Student PCs on campus will be upgraded at around 1.00am to try and minimise any impact.

Following the restart of your PC, a full computer scan of your PC will begin.

Why?

An essential upgrade is planned to install Sophos Central antivirus software on all staff and student University computers to help maintain high levels of security and ensure software is supported and up to date.

When?

Staff PCs

From 3.30pm on Monday 7 May 2018 until 3.30pm Monday 21 May 2018 [UK Time]

Student PCs

From 1.30am on Wednesday 9 May and Wednesday 16 May 2018 [UK Time]

You should not experience any disruption, but you will need to restart your computer after the upgrade completes.
