Updated: Protect Against the Spectre/Meltdown Bugs by Updating and Upgrading your Mac Operating Systems

There are a number of updates you should do on your University Mac following the computer chip bugs that have recently been discovered.

Apply security updates to your Mac OS and Safari browser

If your Mac is currently running OS X El Capitan (10.11.6) or macOS Sierra (10.12.6) please follow these steps.  You may wish to find out which version you are on.

  1. Go to Mac Self Service
  2. Under Categories, click on OS Updates*
  3. An option to apply security updates for your Mac operating system and Safari should appear
  4. Click on Install for each of these options (this may take a while to complete)

If no relevant option appears in Mac Self Service, contact the IT Service Desk.

Manually Assured Users

It is recommended that you run all available updates for the system in the App Store, as per this advice:
